The Bud is Back Meme

Image
Courtesy of Sunday Stealing The Bud is Back Meme Every now and then, the narcissist in the blogger decides to surface and tell all and sundry about themselves. While yours truly is not really willing to divulge everything about herself (real name for one), she happens to like talking about her blog. A lot. She saw this meme, liked it and decided to honour it by stealing it. After all, that is what Sunday Stealing is all about! 1. Why did you sign up for writing your blog? It happened on a whim - I had stories to tell, and the blog kind of took them in without telling me that I'm crazy. 2. Why did you choose your blog's name? What does it mean? You know how sometimes when you convince yourself enough about something, it may just come true? The same goes for the name of this blog. According to the free dictionary, raconteur means : One who tells stories and anecdotes with skill and wit. Someday, I hope that the blog will live up to it's name :) 3. Do you ever had...

A DOZEN + THREE AUTHORS

A few days ago, I received a surprise tag from an old friend on facebook - surprise because I thought tagging on Notes ended when 2009 drew it's last curtain. However, I decided to take on the task of doing the tag, but with a little bit of Secret Agent Woman twist... modified rules! The original Rules are as follows: The Rules - Don't take too long to think about it. Fifteen authors, poets included, who've influenced you and will always stick with you. List the first fifteen you can recall in no more than fifteen minutes. Tag a few friends, including me, because I am interested in seeing what authors you choose. To do so, go to your Notes tab on your profile page, paste rules in a new note, cast your fifteen picks, and tag people in the note. I ended up taking a little more than 15 minutes to come up with the list, because I thought I'd explain how each author played a role in my life and how they influenced me and such. 1. Enid Blyton 2. Carolyn Keene  3. Fr...

Wisdom at 21 Meme

Books and memes happen to be two of my favourite things, books in the real world, and memes in the virtual world, and therefore, I had pilfered this meme from Trav's Thoughts. The rules are simple enough and seem pretty fun.  1. Find the nearest bookshelf of your favourite reads, cookbooks, tech books, magazines. It doesn't matter. This will work for all print media. If you don't have seven books lined up on a shelf, grab the first seven you see around the house. (I had to modify this a bit seeing that my books are  a) practically everywhere or  b) may cause an avalanche with attempted removal from the cupboard they're arranged in (term used very lightly),  which led me to pick the last seven books (fiction) I read (they're in a box) arranged in the order they were read. I have also eliminated about 3 books because they're from the same author - went on a mad Roald Dahl marathon recently) 2. Book #1: Turn to page 21. Read the 21st sentence (you may hav...

Scraps of Honesty

Image
If someone asks you to state 10 facts about yourself, what would you say? Right at the top of my head are, I'm female, 29 (gasp!!) years old, with bad eyesight who likes to read a lot and suffers from self diagnosed insomnia which may be the result of my addiction to coffee. There's 6 facts right in that sentence itself. I could continue but I won't. I was tagged by Ricardo awhile ago for this particular meme where I'm supposed to state 10 things about myself, but lets face it... throughout the years, I've done lists of this sort, from the 6 weird things about me, and it's sister version of 9 weird things about me and most recently, 25 random facts about me. That 25 random facts took me 3 days to compile - of course not 3 whole days, but you get the picture. Is there anything else left to say? I don't know... For that reason, I've decided to modify the meme... I'm going to list 10 items, but only 5 of them are true and another 5 are either ex...

Stolen Sunday

In case you didn't already know there is a Robin Hood- esque blog out there, aptly named Sunday Stealing , where they go around stealing memes from the meme rich blogs to share with the meme poor blogs! Well, sort of anyway, cause the meme poor blogs actually have to do the stealing on their own... after all blog posts don't really write by themselves, do they? Anyway, I was checking out their blog week ago and found this meme, which I thought I'd steal because it looked like fun. Third Meme about Blogging 1. How did you come up with your blog title OR what does it mean? There is a movie out there that goes by the title Unfinished Business. I've never watched it, nor do I really know what it is about, but titles tend to stick in your head at times, so I used it. However, the reason it's used here is due to the fact that writing is my unfinished business. Another thing I ought to mention is that this particular blog had a different name originally for a very...

Presumably Popular Reads

I have a feeling I've done something like this before, way back in 2006, but since time has passed since then and so has the number of books I've read increased, I'll do this one more time. Tagged by the wielder of the argentum sword BBC believes the majority of people will have only read 6 of the 100 books here. 1) Look at the list and put an ‘X’ after those you have read. 2) Tally your total at the bottom. 3) Tag a few people you think would enjoy sharing similar information about their book interests. 1 Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen (x) 2 The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien (x) 3 Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte (x) 4 Harry Potter series - JK Rowling (x) 5 To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee (x) Revisited at least once a year 6 The Bible 7 Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte (x) 8 Nineteen Eighty Four - George Orwell 9 His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman 10 Great Expectations - Charles Dickens (x) 11 Little Women - Louisa M Alcott (x) 12 Tess of the D’Urbervilles -...

25 Random Things

Otherwise known as "I have no Life" So, after 2 hits on Facebook and a few hours of cumulative procrastination, this is it, the 25 most random things about yours truly which I had put up on Facebook and decided to put up here as well... 1. There are a few street lights that go off or on each time I pass under them. Even more recently, I discovered a light that went out at work when I walked under it. This will be fun until it gets repaired 2. I started using glasses since the age of 7. Since then I've broken a few, lost one in a bus and even temporarily misplaced another for two weeks 3. I got my drivers license at 18, but never really drove actively until I had to at the age of 24 when I desperately needed to and got my own car because I was a bit scared of driving. Soon after that my sister gives me the nick name Evil Knievel! 4. A group of Singaporeans once asked me if I was really a Malaysian when I said that I don't eat durians ! 5. Most people who ...

Start Me Up

I have a thing for: a) Numbers (Not the tv show although I think the main character is kinda cute!) And it's pretty cool to have hit post number 100 for the year... especially after the slump in blogging for 2007 b) A lot of other things which I can't seem to remember because I thought of this post before sleeping last night and I've forgotten everything right now. I sure will most probably win an award for most forgetful blogger if there ever was such a thing! c) Music, which brings forth this meme I pilfered off Woozie's blog because I think it's awesome, and yes, I have a thing for memes :D 1. Put your iTunes on shuffle. 2. For each question, press the next button to get your answer. 3. YOU MUST WRITE THAT SONG NAME DOWN NO MATTER HOW SILLY IT SOUNDS! 4. Tag your friends who might enjoy doing the game as well as the person you got the meme from. IF SOMEONE SAYS "IS THIS OKAY" YOU SAY? Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd WHAT WOULD BEST D...

A Meme about Me

I just realised with horror that both my previous posts were exceptionally long. I must have been carried away by my new found enthusiasm. Another thing I noticed is that I'm only 3 posts away from surpassing the number of posts on this blog last year, so as a way to keep up the momentum, and the small promise I made to myself earlier this year to blog more, as well as to reach more than 12 posts this month (my highest no of posts was in May with a staggering 12 posts and I don't see why I should not attempt to beat that), I have decided to do one of the memes that I was tagged with some time ago. This one's from Anita as well. 1) What is the most important thing in your life? I think the freedom of making choices 2) What is the last thing that you bought with your own money? A Yamaha C40 I think... and loads of TP in a moment of madness 3) Where do you wish to get married? Somewhere quiet. 4) How old do you think you will be permanently owned by your love?...

The radio hates me and a meme

As much as I like listening to the radio during my journey to and from work (especially to, and less of from), I have this feeling that it's all unrequited. Radio stations hate me. There's no other explanation. I think it was about over a month ago when I mentioned about a new favourite radio station, and how the deejays with their monty python-esque antics make my mornings better, and how I actually won tickets to the Indiana Jones movie, etc. Life was pretty good then. Barely two weeks later, the station decides to reformat it's content (and promote travel and adventure locally as to help the tourism industry due to rising costs of travel)... so the wake up show (which is called something else these days but I can't seem to remember what it is) is hosted by two other deejays (one of them used to host a show at night called "nocturnal with (insert deejay's name)") and they're not even funny. The saddest part of all, is that they don't even try...

Blogging For Peace - A Meme

Once again, we are close approaching the bi-annual event that advocates peace. This time around a meme accompanies this event. It's most probably going to be one of the biggest and best ever. Anyway, I've err... directly quoted from Mimiwrites, and the meme goes like this: **start copy** BlogBlast For Peace Meme ~ Join The Revolution Here are the rules and the story. Copy this into a post, ADD YOUR NAME to the bottom of the tag list and tag as many people as you'd like. The Peace Globe project began in the fall of 2006 with a simple post from one blog, Mimi Writes. The post ignited a flame in the blogosphere. The flame became a passion. The passion became a movement. It amazingly traveled from blog to blog to blog across the globe. Bloggers wrote passionate articles on what peace means to them, along with the promise of three Latin words scribbled on a globe - Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace) - branded with the integrity of their names or blog names. It was pos...
