Time of My Life
18 Feb, 2025.
It's been almost a month and half since then, but ...I had the time of my life in a Greenday concert, in Malaysia. They had closed with this song (one of my favourites from long ago) and it was an apt farewell. Let us just forget the Good Riddance part of the song.
It had rained for most of the evening in varying degrees. Not to the extent of cats and dogs, but still enough to keep a warm sort of sliminess inside your poncho, between your damp t-shirt, and jeans, fogged up glassess and partially wet hair. We had tried to get seats in the seated area, but couldn't go through during the frantic attempts to buy it when sales for the tickets opened. Everything was worth it though. Even the flu that attacked all 3 of us (Around 3 days of fever and a cough that lasted for a month or so)
I had been interested in Greenday's music since I was in my teens. A fan, perhaps, if you could call it that with my limited access to music. Back then Minority was my favourite song.
Despite being around for around 30 odd years, this was the first time Greenday had decided to perform here. And as a joke I commentted that most famous bands come to Malaysia when they are of 'uncle age' or rather years after their peak, circa American Idiot days. I suppose I made a mistake here, because Greenday is somehow still at their peak, churning out albums pretty often, peppered with important political and protest messages. Instead it was I that stopped listening because I was tuning into songs from the 70's!

I haven't been able to actually move on from the concert, to be honest. I went looking for footage by other people, and a certain number of people on those videos also mentioned being unable to move on. Later on, I started driving to work listening to Greenday, convincing the youtube algorithm, I only wanted to listen to their songs. I checked all the albums I missed during my phase of listening to old songs from the 70's and found a whole bunch of songs I am listening to on repeat. I have also been watching interviews and any other related content.
Sounds obsessive? Yeah. I think I am a fan now.
Note: Still rusty in writing. I had so many feelings about the concert I can't seem to put in writing.
