In which I may have to go missing for awhile

the power of water ;)
I'm having a major computer problem. Due to old age (and probably an abusive owner), my laptop suddenly didn't want to work anymore. Turns out, the laptop itself is still fine, but the cable that supplies the electricity and the port that receives it don't see eye to eye anymore. In order to use it as I am using it now, the power connection is pushed to the side with my water bottle.

Even with external help, the power gets cut off accidentally - for instance if I hit the "delete" key a bit more enthusiastically than I should, or if I'm trying to use the USB port which is situated a bit too close for comfort. The worst part of it all? I have to use it on the floor, which is not very comfortable.

So, until I find a solution to this problem, I might as well announce that I may not be around here for awhile (although I'll have to try to sneak in typing stuff elsewhere and just posting it up here)

  2. Well you will be missed. Hopefully you can solve your problem soon, or find some other computer to steal/borrow/never give back.

    1. Well, I'll be around to read and comment and all, but posting will be troublesome, I guess.

  3. I used to have a laptop that gave me problems since day 1. Sent it for repair several times, changed some major parts and it always had annoying issues. Then I dumped it and got a new one. I'm lovin this one :)
Hope you could sort your laptop soon.

    1. This one was too. I got cheated buying it (they (HP!) gave me Vista with less that 1 gig of RAM)

Well, we'll see how the attempts to repair go. Worst case scenario, get a new laptop - hopefully it's still tax deductible.

  4. I always hate when a cable doesn't work right. If they spent a little more money on wiring it could last forever but no. My headphones never last because of that.

    1. The consumers are at the losing end here. Products seem to be of inferior quality these days compared to those from say 9 or 10 years ago.

  5. I've changed out the power cord with a universal cord from Best Buy. That has help me a couple of times...

  7. Well at least your laptop itself is fine. That's always a good thing.

  8. I really enjoy fixing things like this so just out of interest, I googled about fixing the power connector on an HP laptop - it looks an awfully difficult job for such a trivial problem.

    1. It never occurred to me until I read your comment. Just saw a video of a guy dismantling a HP pavillion. It's just insane!
