The Mystery of The Disappearing Book

Image
When I was a kid, I always had my nose buried in one of Enid Blyton's mystery stories. When I was done with those, I graduated to Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys and The 3 Investigators. Now I have a mystery to solve all on my own. (Admittedly, they had more interesting mysteries which involved hiding in cars and spying on people and having their own tree houses as HQ for their top secret meetings, whilst mine is...) A slim, blue jacketed copy of Wuthering Heights has somehow incredibly disappeared right under my nose. I know that maybe two years from now, I might find it hidden in the fridge or something and laugh and probably blog about it, but for now it's missing.  I've turned my book cupboards inside out twice, searched other cupboards, searched in travelling bags, in my car and anywhere else books may take a fancy to hide themselves. So, now, despite promising my sister that I could lend my copy to her friend who expressed some in...

LOST BUT NOT FOUND

Image
My mom is a semi-firm believer in the art of fengshui, and she also happens to care way too much about her already grown up kids. When we ask her about it, she says she'll always be our mom no matter how old we get, so that was that. Due to her caring way too much attitude,  a few years ago, she got me a monkey on a horse bronze statue, a small one similar to size of a tightly balled up fist of a 5'3" female - something which fengshui believers believe will help improve our career prospects. The Monkey on a Horse Now, while I'm not much of a believer in anything at all - except maybe for science, I took the statue and duly placed it on my work desk. However, as time went by and I changed office, I ended up putting it and locking it inside my desk drawer. Prior to this, I've had a few things missing from my work desk, from packets of emergency food supply such as the 3-in 1 sachets of cereal or coffee. I brushed it off as co-workers being a hungry lot who...

Noisy Silence

It was a little after 7pm when I noticed that the office had become awfully quite, where mere minutes had passed since Jeremy walked out of the office door. In the silence that followed, the light on the walkie-talkie that was standing still at the corner of my table flashed red and a sound popped out. I started, knowing very well that there was no one else around.. so who had made the sound? I was pretty sure it wasn't any of the guys at work because the sound was rather soft, and high pitched at the same time, and as far as I knew they had all gone back to break fast for Ramadan with their respective families. This I ascertained when I saw the almost deserted carpark (and working where I do, I know which car belongs to whom, and none of the cars left were walkie-talkie owners) And it couldn't have been static either... that has a different sound. I was too unnerved to stay on further, all plans to work late flung out of the window. I knew it would only be moments before stuff...

AN ANOMALY OF THE BLOGGING KIND

In the initial days of blogging which seems so far away, I used to avoid putting up pictures on the blog like a plague. I'd say this was contributed to the fact that I had indeed started on this addictive hobby when I was still struggling with a 56 kbps modem, and pictures would have taken a lifetime to load. After all, anyone who has known me long enough will well be aware of all the connection problems I have faced throughout, the most recent just a few months ago. These days I do put up pictures, for visual purposes at times, but the latest of the lot was a mystery! Till the very end, and on three different browsers, the picture never enlarged despite the fact that I had stated on the post right below the picture : "Click to enlarge" My mistake was I only checked it once after posting the post on Friday night and blamed it on my browser. Very convenient, aight ? Anyway, a little over a day later I spent a good half an hour putting the picture up, just to take it ...
